Camp Westmont is a family owned and operated camp located in the foothills of the majestic Pocono Mountains. Minna and Fred Moskowitz opened Camp Westmont for the 1981 camp season. Over those many years, Westmont has grown into one of the most prestigious camps in the country.
Possessing 40 years of camping experience Minna and Fred continue to strive to bring to the campers the most innovative programming and activities possible. Both owners were educators with the New York City Board of Education. Fred was the Dean of Grady High School, as well as a varsity High School coach. Fred coached teams in basketball, tennis and baseball and as a Speech Pathologist and Language Coordinator, Minna worked for over 25 years in her respective field.
These qualifications have proven invaluable as they continue to provide the very best in camping for your children.
Ross Moskowitz is continuing the legacy set forth by his parents. Ross started his Westmont career in 1981 in bunk Apache and never looked back.
After graduating from the University of Maryland where he played Division 1 Baseball for the Terps, Ross attended Law School and became an attorney. With Camp Westmont always on his mind and camping in his heart he jumped at the opportunity to become the Camp’s Director.
Moving forward it is Ross’ vision to lead a new generation of Westmont campers and show them why Camp Westmont is; “Camping at its Best” Ross is joined at the camp with his wife Susan who is also an attorney, and two future Westmont Campers, his daughter Emilly and son Andrew.
Halley Manyin began her sleep away camp experience at the age of 5. Insisting on tagging along with her two older sisters, her mother reluctantly agreed. From that moment on Halley was a true camper. Her 8 years at sleep away as a camper are forever imbedded in her heart. She spent the last four years of those summers at Camp Westmont. From 1981-1984 were some of the greatest years of her life. Last year Halley had the opportunity to return to Camp Westmont with her 2 children Jake 9 and Mackenzie 6. Seeing the traditions that have lasted all these years and watching her children fall in love with camp was truly an amazing experience.
Halley brings a vast background with her to Camp Westmont. She has a degree in Elementary Education from University of Maryland and a master’s degree in Reading from NYU. Halley has been a teacher in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District on Long Island for the past 16 years. She has also worked at day camps on the south shore of Long Island as a counselor, group leader, and director of a junior tennis program. Halley, her husband Jeff and two children live in Oceanside, New York.
Halley and her family look forward to many more rewarding years with their Westmont family.
In 1985, Larry Zuckerman hopped on the Livingston, New Jersey bus along with his older brother Brian and twin brother Ryan and headed towards Camp Westmont. On Saturday, June 26th, Larry will once again drive towards Northeast Pennsylvania as he begins his 25th summer at Westmont. It seems like yesterday that he was living in bunk Comanche as he began to form lifelong friendships and memories that continue to this day. After spending 7 summers as a camper, Larry became a Junior Counselor in 1992 when Westmont moved across the lake to its current location. Larry has been a staff member ever since, serving as a counselor and group leader in nearly every division on boy’s side. Last summer, Larry took on the responsibility of boys head counselor and enjoyed every moment of it. With one summer under his belt, Larry looks forward to running boys side once again and helping make the summer of 2010 one to remember.
During the year, Larry works at Franklin Middle School in Reisterstown, MD. He serves as the head of the School Counseling Department in the second largest middle school in Baltimore County. Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Penn State University and his Master’s degree in Counseling Education and Development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Running, working out, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends is how Larry spends some of his leisure time outside of camp.
